Diwali , also known as the "Festival of Lights," is a five-day Hindu festival that is celebrated in October or November each year. The festival commemorates the victory of good over evil and light over darkness, and is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists around the world. One of the main legends associated with Diwali is the story of Lord Rama's return to his kingdom of Ayodhya after defeating the demon king, Ravana. According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama, along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, had been exiled to the forest for 14 years. During this time, Ravana, the ruler of Lanka, kidnapped Sita and held her captive.
